The Room Leader plays a pivotal and influential role within early childhood services, and is
responsible for the preparation, implementation and evaluation of a developmentally appropriate
programs and looking after staff within their designated room.
To work alongside and support the teaching staff of the service.
▪ To always adhere to the Education and Care Services National Regulations under the Education
and Care Services National Law, regulations as well as the policies, goals and philosophy of the
service.
▪ To uphold the ‘National Quality Framework’ and ‘National Quality Standards’ as per the
‘Service’s’ Philosophy, goals, policies and procedures.
The employee is responsible, for the implementation, guidance and evaluation of a developmentally
appropriate program for individual children or groups, while ensuring that:
▪ There is a commitment to the need for each child to be given individual attention and comfort
▪ Staff are supported in the provision of quality child care that meets the needs of individual and
groups of children and supports their learning in accordance with the Early Years Learning
Framework.
▪ The philosophy, policies and procedures of the service are upheld and implemented
The children and families of the child care community are liaised with and encouraged to
contribute to the quality and success of the service
▪ General supervision is provided to allocated employees within the service
SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
▪ Ability to interact with children and families in a positive, sensitive and respectful manner
▪ Ability to develop and demonstrate positive behaviour strategies and support children’s
learning of same
▪ Ability to work with other team members in the inclusion, support and care of all children
▪ Good knowledge of current child care practices
▪ Good knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework

▪ Good knowledge of Licensing Regulations under the relevant Act

Responsibilities and Duties
All responsibilities and duties must be carried out regarding and including:
▪ Support the Director.
▪ Coordinate with the Educational Leader and Staff in the development of the curriculum
▪ Being approachable and respected by staff so that staff and educators feel comfortable in
discussing requirements.
▪ Knowledge of theories, pedagogy and relevant learning frameworks to impart and support
educators in this area
▪ Mentor, guide and support educators of varying abilities and learning styles
▪ Knowledge of the NQS and related regulatory standards
▪ Knowledge of Family Assistance Law.
▪ Lead and contribute to reflective discussions about practice and implementing the learning
framework
▪ Mentor other educators by leading quality practice
Discuss routines and how to make them more effective learning experiences
▪ Observe children and educator interactions, and make suggestions on how to improve
interactions and intentional teaching
▪ Communicate and talk to parents about the educational program
▪ Work with other early childhood professionals
▪ Link the program to the community
▪ Establish systems across the service to ensure there is continuity of learning when children
change rooms
▪ Assist with documenting children’s learning and how these assessments can inform
curriculum

QUALIFICATION
Minimum Diploma in Children’s Services.
REQUIRED
▪ Current First Aid qualification / Asthma / Anaphylaxis / CPR
▪ A criminal history clearance as per the current relevant statutory requirements
▪ Working With Children Check
▪ Child Protection
▪ Appropriate skills, knowledge and training in food safety and hygienic handling of food and
equipment
▪ Attendance at out of hours meetings, training and Service functions may be required (Award /
Agreement remuneration / conditions apply)
▪ Current Driver’s License
▪ The employee will receive training and development relevant to CSE Level 4
